SouthWest Laser and Medspa utilizes BBL™ or broadband light generated by the Profile ™ by Sciton™. This innovative technology sets new standards for the treatment of skin conditions associated with aging, active lifestyles and sun damage. BBL broadband light allows us to precisely treat fine wrinkles, age and sunspots, small facial veins and several other skin blemishes. Your treatment will be tailored to match your skin’s condition and your desired result.

How does BBL work?
The light energy delivered by the BBL handpiece will gently heat up the upper layers of your skin. The heat absorbed by the targeted areas will stimulate your skin cells to generate new collagen. This will help restore your skin to it’s natural beauty. In addition, the photothermal energy will target and eliminate many of the fine vessels that cause redness and the unwanted melanin responsible for pigmented lesions. The end result is smoother, vibrant, and younger looking skin.
What areas can be treated?
Any area of the body can be treated. The most common areas are those most exposed to the damaging effects of the sun. The most popular treatments are for the face, neck, back of the hands, chest and shoulders.
How many treatments will I need?
Usually 2-5 treatments, at 2-4 week intervals will produce the desired results. A package of treatments can be tailored to meet your specific needs.
Will it be uncomfortable?
The procedure is gentle, non-invasive, and safe. Most clients describe the sensation to be like the snap of a rubberband on the skin as the pulses of energy are delivered. Some clients who are extra sensitive opt to have a topical numbing cream applied beforehand.
What should I expect after treatment?
This is a non-invasive, gentle procedure with virtually no downtime. In most cases, you will be able to resume all your normal activities and apply makeup. You may experience some redness and occasionally very minor swelling. This will resolve within a few hours. The pigmented areas and capillaries treated may appear darker temporarily. This is normal. The pigmented areas will flake off at a later stage and the redness will soon fade away. Your skin will feel smoother, fine wrinkles and pores will be less noticeable and uneven skin tones will improve significantly.
Laser Skin Rejuvenation – Thermascan™ (Hinsdale Location Only)
SouthWest Laser and Medspa’s Profile™ Thermascan™ laser is an effective technology with a broad array of functions for improving the appearance of skin. It uses a special pulsed infared laser that can selectively target the region of your skin responsible for improving collagen. This technology can be used to treat wrinkles, fine lines, aging skin, active acne and acne scarring, as well as hypertrophic scars.

How does Thermascan work?
Thermascan uses an infared laser to rejuvinate your skin from the inside out. The energy absorbed by the targeted areas stimulates the fibroblast cells in your skin to begin generating collagen. Collagen and elastin fibers continue to multiply after your treatment, and you will see improvement over the months ahead.
What areas can be treated?
Thermascan therapy is effective on all skin types and tones. The most popular treamtnets are for the face, around the eyes, mouth and cheeks.
How many treatments will I need?
Studies show that at least two treatments are needed to stimulate collagen growth and most people see benefits by the fourth treatment.
Will it be uncomfortable?
This is a gentle, non-invasive treatment. There should be minimal discomfort. You may feel a warming of the skin or a rubberband like snap sensation as the procedure is performed. However, this varies from client to client and depends on the depth of treatment. A topical numbing cream can be used on extra-sensitive areas.
What should I expect after my treatment?
There is virtually no downtime associated with this procedure. The treated area may appear red for about an hour afterward. However, make-up can immediately be applied.
Skin Tightening Therapy
SouthWest Laser and Medspa is one of the first to offer Sciton’s exciting new skin tightening technology. Sciton’s BBL is utilized with an added skin tightening filter. The proper combination of skin surface cooling and pulsed light treatment create a beneficial rise in temperature at a desirable point below the skin surface. Collagen is targeted and it is made to partially coagulate and contract. After a series of treatments, a tightening of the skin can be achieved.

How many treatments will it take before I see results?
This is not an overnight process. A tightening of the skin can be felt immediately post-treatment, but a series of treatments every 2-4 weeks are needed to achieve optimum results. Improvement in the skin continues over the next six months.
Will the treatment be painful?
There should be minimal discomfort during this procedure. The handpiece utilized contains a cold chill plate, which helps with any discomfort and keeps the skin cool and protected. The feeling of the pulsed light can be compared to that of the snap of a small rubber band.
What can I expect post-treatment?
A mild to moderate sunburn sensation can be present and a tightening should be noticed for up to 2 hours after your treatment. There should be no significant discomfort, and you'll experience no “down-time” as a result of this procedure. You can resume your normal activities and skin care. Makeup can be worn immediately post-treatment.
