About Botox

What is Botox, exactly?
It is a purified protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This purified protein blocks the release of acetylcholine and relaxes muscles.
How does Botox work?
Normally, your brain sends electrochemical messages to your muscles to make them contract and move. These messages are transmitted from a nerve to the muscle by a substance called acetylcholine. Botox blocks the nerve from releasing acetylcholine. As a result, the muscle contractions stop or are greatly reduced, which in turn reduces the wrinkles in that area.
How soon will I see a difference, and how long will it last?
Clients can usually see results within days of treatment, but the full effect can take up to 10 days. Visible results have been shown to last up to 3-5 months, and after that you should return for follow-up treatment. Results last longer after you have received consecutive treatments over time.
What is the treatment like?
Botox cosmetic is a quick and minimally invasive procedure. Discomfort is minimal and brief. No anesthesia is required, although very sensitive clients may opt to numb the area with a cold pack or numbing cream prior to injection. There is no down time, you may resume all your normal activities immediately.

How does Botox treat excessive underarm sweating?
Botox treatment can help control this condition by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. Excessive sweating should cease within approximately four weeks of your treatment. Periodic treatments can last from 6-8 months – give us a call, or come by, and we can tell you more about this very effective treatment.
